With a new job comes new responsibilities, with that today we unveil the Kuwana Steel Dragons Blog with a tantalizing logo. Our blog will go behinds the scenes and get the news before it happens. When rumors start to fly around we put a stop to it will real facts straight from me the GM. It will be an honest take of weekly news about upcoming games, injury reports, trade speculations and more. We all get tired of reporters not asking hard questions. They make it easy for many of us. I will answer those questions as well as give more info then needed on multiple occasions. Now sadly I won't be writing the blogs myself. We have set up 50 interviews over the next few days to see who will get the job. They will follow me on a day to day basis getting to know me as well as the managers and players. They will also get a nice salary along with the job. You just have to work hard and love baseball.

Cool logo Mark! I know less about Kuwana than any other team in the league at this point, so I'll be curious to hear some of the inner workings.

The logo itself took me over 14 hours as I talked with Hitmen GM about logos. Then I scrapped my original idea for the old rustic look. The Clams I had to copy and paste over and over with PS6 trial and then angle them right. I tried my best to get the LRS Logo somewhere and when I accidentally hit shift it lighten the colors on me and then I decided to just use transparency to make it work. The fonts are handwritten and used the magnetic wand to cut them from the original back ground and then erased the rest and pasted for the effect. Honestly the hardest part was finding a good set of chopsticks that would blend well with the background. I had to wand them also to remove the while behind it. Then I found the sign that was awesome. i was very happy when I saw that. The finished touches was the menu that is also a handwritten font, as well as the fish bones. I spent 3 hours looking over steam pics and did not find anything I liked. But I think the font is a really nice touch as they are all one of a kind. The tedious work was zooming in to 2000% to make sure there was no white in any areas and to make sure the bowl popped out as much as the clams did.

I think you all knwo why the chop stick are at an angle and not up and down. ;-D The Old Kierstead II might have done it the other way but I am the softer side

Today was supposed to be an easy day. My managers and I had locked down
the final 2 who would be representing the team with our new blog. Simple you may
think but when it comes down to it not many people really new much about baseball.
We need the blogger to be a fan and to have some knowledge of the sport itself.

Half of the applicants thought we were a new restaurant opening up. They came
in asking about seating and what kind of clams we had in the dish. That was not my
mistake of course. Our advertising guru did not do a very good job. Then we had a
few people thinking we were a soccer team…. Really soccer? Then we had the final 2,
1 guy 1 girl. The guy was very smart a genius maybe and even had a PEBA baseball card on
him from the collectable card game. He was a bit bummed we still didn't have an LRS version.
She wore a Kudo and Kimura in the Morning t-shirt.
Sadly the shirt had seen better days then the show.

Now the lady I have met already. I didn’t know she had filled out application until I sat down
with the two of them. She knows more about baseball then any of the other two. Her
writing has already been known to the LRS and bringing her back would actually save me
money. I would only have to pay her half because she already has amassed a fortune with
her new clothing line.

So when I sat down with the both of them it was an easy choice. The Fanboy kept playing
with the cards while staring at her, even had his adult retainer fall out. The organization and
myself have agreed that Tricia Takanawa will be the lead writer for The Hamaguri. She has vast
writing experience as well as a bountiful knowledge of the sport. So the next time you see the
blog it will have it’s new writer attached and she will get the ball rolling.

-------------------------- ------------------Cleaning out the Car

As the season comes to close in the LRS most teams are getting ready for the playoffs. Some are in the hunt for the playoffs,
as others frankly have no chance. The Steel Dragons are one of those teams. So GM Kierstead as well as most management held a
meeting on what is to come. The room was dimly lit, with hint of Cuban cigar smell. Those were being handed out by one of the assistants.
“We have much to celebrate” Kierstead had said. He was very much true in that statement. The Steel Dragons were close to making
a profit this season as well as break the record attendance. Over 4,000 more fans per game then last year showed up to the games.
Sure the tickets were priced fairly and adequate for the area, as well for a losing team. Kierstead stood and passed out some paperwork for the
staff to look at. Some looked surprised and other lowered their heads in sadness. When I got the paper myself it was clear the team was
getting the junk out of the trunk. They had a ton of dead weight and players asking for too much to return the next season.
Some of the names listed were.

ImageRF Tara Kudo - 11.5 mil asking 2 years 7.5 mil per. Have been in talks won’t budge on contract talks, Thinks he is worth that much…
His popularity will be missed and fans will greatly be affected. As we don't see him coming back.

ImageP Arthur Gardener - Contract drops to league min; Told him 5 wins a season is not worth it, States that he will get railed in PEBA and
needs to stay in the LRS. I said maybe another team would pick him up, not us and not for 1 year.

ImageSS Jun'ichi Kawamura - Finally had a injury free season, wants 5.1 mil, When we sat down I told him don’t even ask your not coming back.
No hard feeling but at 36 years old you would need to at least hit .300 and pop more then 1 out of the yard. He understood and thought
maybe retirement unless he lands with another team. Won’t let the baseball
bug leave his tight grip.

ImageRF Shannon Davis - We laughed it up for a bit and knew he had an ok season. But he understood that his age and that fact that he is stull
unknown in Japan is unbelievable. I told him those season in Evas should have put him on the map. He hit 38 homers once… He feels like a
no one and knows we can’t pay him 3.6 mil this season.

Image2B Hayden Walters - Hit over .300 this year, sadly he is gaijin and for 1.3 mil we can find a Japanese batter for his position. Was one of
his best year yet since the 2015 season. Damn wish he were Japanese. But again asking too much and won’t budge.

ImageCF Michael Williams - No idea what happened to him to the kid. He was speechless about his season. Mentioned he could not even hit a
dang softball if he wanted to. He lost the pep in his step and his bat all in one season. Has been degrading over the past few years and the
damn kid have yet to hit his prime. He knew then eh was not going to be back next season. I wished him luck and demoted him. He denied
his demotion and told him I would just waive him…

The Call Me Maybe Club

ImageLF Sotaro Chikafuji – Old man still had it, but won’t know for sure if he can continue for another season or two. 2.1 mil is a lot to ask for a
36 going on 37 year old. He was happy where he is at and the younger guys look up to him. Have to see at end of year.

ImageP Katsuhiko 'Reality Check' Rin – Reality is he failed us. But he did sell some t-shirts. His 1.8 mil asking price won’t cover the shirts he would
sell next year though. Might not have been his fault though as the manager did start him 2 games… I signed him as a MR not a starter…Need
more time on this.

It was well over an hour until we had covered that list. The gaijin issues won’t be there for sure next year and with the salary cut Kuwana will
have plenty to play with and fill some major holes. Next time we will cover the financial report.

Fiscal Responsibility: Can You Really trust him?
Image
When it comes to budget and spending there is one man that comes to mind that should not be in charge. GM Kierstead has proven in the past to do what ever he could to blow as much as he could in as little time as possible. If I were owner of the Kuwana Steel Dragons I would leave GM Kierstead in the dark and out of all meetings. They are looking to have a profitable season this year, and barely I might add. Not counting cash on hand their season was looking at about -$290,000.00 as of last week. Now counting the home games coming up they should easily bring them in the black this season.
As we noted a few days ago he plans on letting go a handful of players and some make sense. Do fans really want LRF Taro Kudo gone after this season? Not by my calculations. 75% of the 34,000 fans who were polled over the past few days think the opposite. They think Kudo needs to come back for the sake of Kuwana and himself. An injury has kept him out all but 34 or so games. You can’t judge a season by that number even if he did well.
GM Kierstead just told us he should have tons of money for the offseason So what if Kudo is asking for $6.5 mil a year. Your fan base would suffer more if you let him go while he has a few good years left. Hell he is only 30 years old. Now comes what I think is a horrible idea. He thinks that dropping the development in half and raising scouting for overseas will help him next season. You’re in japan for crying out loud, how many gaijin are you looking to scout for? No need, keep it where it is at as you have a bunch of young guys who will need that extra cash to develop correctly.
Plus is Kierstead really the guy you want looking over your farm? Not in my eyes. He gives them godly goals and when they don’t produce he ships them away and watches others teams mold them into stars. Examples 1, 2, 3. I had about 7-10 more but I think I should save what little reputation he has left. I honestly think Kierstead is afraid of talent. Those players may bring the spot light away from his giant ego and receding hairline for more then a second. We know that can’t happen.
If you look at what he did in Seoul some say it was dreadful. Some may even say he left them in good standings. Many would say he was more interested in the lifestyle then the game itself. So this is what I suggest. Have management lock him in a cage for a few weeks while they work on Free agency. Heck we know he has dumpster dived and survived with much less. Sign a few big name PEBA guys who can bring more fans as well as help the team win. They need pitchers for sure and if they cant get a decent one go after some big bats that can protect Nori Oike. Then use some to fill other holes while your guys develop.

Up next time is rumored park expansion as well as other improvements.

News broke late last night that a major move had been made within the Steel Dragons organization. I am not privy to the information but it has trickled down that this will change the face of the franchise. We overheard owner Michael Chance chewing GM Kierstead out for making the trade without his knowledge. But once it was explained to Mr. Chance more in depth he calmed down and said he would go with the flow, for now. It is very brazen for Kierstead to make moves without the knowledge of our owner. I hope he knows what he is doing.

"The moves have been made and The organization in a better place for the future." Michael Chance stated at the yearly Spring training dinner.
He stood at the end of the table sipping wine from his raised glass, a smile filling his face. He pointed towards GM Mark Kierstead and gave him a thumbs up. Camera flashes filled the room catching all those in celebration. Players started mingling about and chit chat about the upcoming season filled the air.

Bets and promises were being made, full-well knowing none would be kept. Then it started. A crack of a bat was heard in the distant. Then the thud of a ball bouncing in the stands. Rookies started grabbing their iphone 12s given to them by the team for communication, and ran to the field snapping photos.

"What the hell?" a confused Michael Chance said.
"He has something to prove I guess" GM Kierstead said laughing, surely enjoying the sight.

When I looked down to the field I gasped. I figured I was seeing things, and I sure as hell was not buzzed.
Taro Kudo, dressed in his tux, was on the field tossing up a ball in front of a bat and blasting said ball into the stands. He was practicing at 10:00pm.

Slappy, Hobo, and Barrel ran to the field, each grabbing a glove.

"I got 1st!" Kierstead yelled, while tagging Mr. Chance in the shoulder.
Then one by one the field started filling up with players from the whole organization. Managers stood at ever base as umpires and Michael Chance stood in the crowded outfield as about 20 players took the field.

I had run down and unbuttoned my overcoat, and played home plate umpire.

The game went on til the wee hours of the morning, everyone was soaked in sweat while covered in dirt head to toe. It was 4am when Kierstead stood at the pitchers mound. Dirt smeared across his cloths as well as his face.
"We are a family, We stand together and we fall together. No one person can help us win but a collective effort from the Kuwana Club. This night shows us that we are on the right step chemistry wise. Hit the showers!" Kierstead said with laughs.

They all walked off arm and arm patting each other on the back.

I did notice once thing, Taro Kudo was no where to be found when the game started. He must have hit the showers early.

Oh what a happy family.

Spring Training Review
Kuwana, Japan
Tricia Takanawa

Kuwana has started off pretty cold to start the 2018 Spring Training. With a 3-9 record things are not looking up.
During the 3-9 starts Kuwana is averaging 2.91 runs per game. Pretty good you would think. Sadly they are giving up 5.91 runs a game, far too many for a revamped bullpen. The lineup for Kuwana has been worrisome as they wont be able to put up the runs necessary in the BBG. So far we have collected 97 hits with 35 runs. Not to shabby, but needs improvement.

The Starters as well as the bullpen have gone under a facelift this past off-season. So we will see how our main starters are doing.

Image P Jun'ichi 'Hobo' Yoshino has done well so far. In 12 innings pitched he has given up 8 hits, with only 2ER. He has posted 17Ks so far.

Image P Bill 'Slappy' Bradley must not be used to the LRS way of play. In 12 innings he has posted 14 hits, 16Ks and a staggering 8ERs. We hope he simmers down and relaxes a bit.

Image P Orinosuke 'Barrel' Yokoyama has impressed the team in a great way. In only 8 innings Barrel has posted only 4 hits and 11Ks, with 1ER.

Image P Iwane Sato did a decent job in 8IP with 7 hits , 5Ks and 3ER.

So our starters could use a bit of a pep talk to continue to do well and improve throughout spring training.
Now lets take a look at our biggest chunk of the payroll this season our new batters.

Image 2B Ching Lim has a great season in PEBA last year and we are hoping he does the same for Kuwana this year. So far he has posted 10 hits, 1 HR, 6 RBI and posted .250 average. Not bad but he could do better and take his time he has struck out 10 times in 40 at bats.

Image SS José González we moved him to SS as he can back up any other position we see fit. González needs more then a pick me up. He is hitting a dismal 7 hits, 1 RBI, 7Ks and a .189 batting average. We hope this slump ends before the season starts or we would have wasted a ton of payroll.

Image C =http://pebabaseball.com/reports/news/h ... insaku Ito The 32 year old came via transfer from PEBA thanks to Fargo. He obviously is not happy with the move, but we may have a way to cheer him up. He has taken that anger out on he baseball for sure. 11 Hits, 4 Doubles, 1 Triple, 10 RBI, and amazing 10BBs, while batting .297. If he hits this good angry I can't wait for him to be happy.

Image CF Francisco López was a good and unexpected pickup. We figured we would be in a fight for him but many overlooked him. He happens to be a switch hitter and a good one at that. He has posted 10 Hits, and 2RBI, while Batting .313, we are sure this will follow into the season.

We were hoping to be able to show how well RF Taro Kudo was doing, but the fact that he is not doing well at all shows us he may not be fully recovered from last season injury. 2 Hits with an average of .154 is not going to cut it. He could very well be looking at a season in the minors this year. Possibly not even on the team by years end.

In other baseball news yours truly will have family coming over by the end of this season, and play ball in 2019. He was born here but moved to the states at a young age when I was working for the Networks. My son has not chosen what school he will attend, but I will give you a name and photo to quench your thirst. Ichiro "Little Big" Takanawa
