Floundering Eagles Lose 7th Straight
The 9-7 Barrow win over Akutan Island was due largely to Pepe García. The Arctic Blast center fielder was 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Barrow reliever Jack Norris picked up the win to move to 1-1. Kinnosuke Honma suffered the loss. Getting the save was Bob Bates, his 3rd.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Juan González came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Akutan Island pitcher Li-zhu Tai, he hit a first pitch curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Barrow on top, 9-7.

"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Akutan Island manager Tomás Mata.

The Eagles fall to 4-8 and continue to sputter in the early going.
