Leeds Locomotives starter David Cruz was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Newport News Anchormen, 3-1. Pedro Escalante closed the game out for Leeds, earning his 1st save. The Anchormen fall to 4-9 and continue their lethargic start to the 2040 season.

The Anchormen had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Locomotives going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old third baseman Keith Thompson came to the plate. Thompson hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch changeup from Newport News hurler Manuel Cabrera. It was Thompson's 3rd home run of the year.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Cruz told the Leeds Gazette.
