Waimalu Takes 2-1 Lead in Divisional
The Waimalu Nene moved to within one game of the Championship today, downing the visiting Kauai Monsters at Waimalu Grounds by a score of 5-3. Nene right-hander Jaime Encarnación had a strong outing in which he threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Nene a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Divisional.

Gerry Embling chipped in for Waimalu with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.

"The competition leap this year was tough to adjust to and I feel like there has been another jump in the playoffs," said Encarnación, a rookie this season. "You're only playing the best now and everyone has time to rest and prepare for you."
