Cervantes Blasts Dons, Missionaries Take Game 3, 7-3
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of third baseman Javier Cervantes, the Provo Missionaries got a road win against the Clifton Dons, 7-3, in Game 3 of the Ambassador's Cup today. Cervantes went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Missionaries, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Cervantes delivered big-time for Provo, stroking a dramatic grand slam home run off Manuel Ávila. The game-changing hit put the Missionaries on top, 7-3.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Missionaries manager Kumanosuke Kawano said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Clifton Stadium in Jersey City.
