José López and the Clifton Dons opened the Ambassador's Cup in brilliant fashion today, traveling to Provo and shutting out the host Missionaries at Field of the Missionaries 2-0 to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. López, the Dons right-hander, threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball.

López gave Clifton a solid start. The right-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits over 7.2 innings.

"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Clifton skipper Ken Hooper. "I can't complain."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Field of the Missionaries in Provo.
