Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Panthers, 3-1
Despite a great performance by Cy-Fair HS catcher Ken Mercer, the DeSoto Central HS Panthers defeated the Bobcats by the score of 3-1 at DeSoto Central Grounds today. Mercer was 2-4 with a home run, but he could not prevent the Panthers from moving one game closer to the Round 2. DeSoto Central HS now leads the Round 1 3-2.

In the bottom of the first, DeSoto Central HS third baseman Artie Hughes had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and one out, Hughes stroked a 2-run home run to left. It made the score 2-0, DeSoto Central HS. For the game, he went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"This was a tough loss," said Cy-Fair HS manager John Redfern. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Cy-Fair HS Grounds in Jersey Village.
