In a tight contest at Hilo Ballpark, the Hilo Hoops edged the Kailua Hanso by the score of 6-5. Hilo catcher Miguel Vargas, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Hilo reliever Jeremie Badoglio picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Mori Mwalimu shouldered the loss. Jo Nii closed the door for Hilo, picking up his 7th save of the year.

Vargas had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-2 fastball from River Donaldson, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Hoops a 6-2 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Vargas.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Vargas, "one at-bat at a time."

Hilo's record now stands at 48-48, placing them 4th in the Hawaiian League Archipelago.
