Pineapples Snatch 4-3 Win
|
The Lana'i City Pineapples topped the Hilo Hoops, 4-3, in Hawaiian League action at Dole Park. The standout performance belonged to Lana'i City pitcher and Ashwell, England, native Bradley Awdry. Guo-qing Fen earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record is now 4-10. Even with the win, the Pineapples have a dismal 29-60 record.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Pineapples sent teenager Taylor Gallimore to the plate against Hoops hurler Juan Moreno. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 0-1 changeup to score 1.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Pineapples manager Butch Corrigan. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
