Thornton Sun Dogs starter Manuel Espinoza kept the Niigata Gigans hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 7-1 win. Román Salinas earned the save for Thornton, his 1st of the year. With this game in the books, Thornton is 49-84, Niigata 70-63.

The Sun Dogs got an important contribution from designated hitter Lucas MacHendrie, who in the bottom of the sixth punched a 1-1 curveball into left for a 3-run home run. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Sun Dogs ahead, 6-1.

"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Sun Dogs manager Mamoru Shimada. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
