Grizzlies Curb Thunderhawks, 1-0

Crowds lined up early in front of Meridian Park, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2040 Interscholastic Federation season. On the mound was Ron Garrett for the visiting Tumwater HS Thunderhawks and Tim White for the hometown Rocky Mountain HS Grizzlies. In a spirited contest, the Grizzlies pulled out the win, defeating the Thunderhawks by the score of 1-0. Especially impressive was Tim White. Don MacMonies got credit for the save for Rocky Mountain HS. It was his 1st of the year.
Pedro Cordero was a prime factor in the win for the Grizzlies. In the bottom of the second with two out, the 16-year old first baseman hit a run-scoring single. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles.
"You don't always need a lot of runs to win," said Cordero. "Sometimes you need just one or two."
