Katy HS got a terrific game from right fielder William Russell. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to DeSoto Central HS, 5-2. Russell went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. The Panthers are now 17-16, while the Tigers fall to 16-17.
DeSoto Central HS used the bat of José Lópes to capture the win. The left fielder jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Panthers ahead, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Lópes said. "That's how it goes."
