Chapman Holds Chula Vista Hitless Saturday, July 26th , 2042 It was a terrific day for Richard Chapman of the Salton Sea Kilmers at Chargers Ballpark. The right-hander stood out with a fantastic 2-0 no-hitter against the Chula Vista Chargers. "I knew I had a no-no going in about the sixth inning when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time-honored superstition of avoiding the pitcher so as not to jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't." For the game, Chapman totaled no walks and 9 strikeouts in a very strong outing. "His mechanics were perfect, and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game," Salton Sea manager Powell Clark said. "He was that good." On the year, Chapman has recorded no saves with a 11-3 record over 132.2 innings. He has mowed down 85 batters on strikes and walked 52 with an ERA of 2.65. View Boxscore |
