Going, Going, Gone! Uiberall Hits 3 Homers Tuesday, August 19th , 2042 Camaguey Tinajon first baseman Volk Uiberall almost did it all. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 4 runs and had 3 hits in 4 at-bats. The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Tinajon to victory. The Joplin Red Racers escaped with the win, 9-7, despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Uiberall. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game. Volk Uiberall hit a two-run home run off Victorio Guerra in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Victorio Guerra in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Arnold Adams in the 6th and flied out in the 8th. "When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Camaguey manager Brad Porter. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the Appalachian Mountain League . If you leave a ball out over the plate to good Global Baseball Brotherhood hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it." To date this season, Uiberall is hitting .243 with 10 home runs. |
