Eagles Snatch Late-Game, 3-2 Win
|
The Akutan Island Eagles had to overcome a good performance from Kenai pitcher Manny Méndez to claim a 3-2 win at Enfield Grounds. Méndez went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The win belonged to Rob Wells in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Zak Sanders took the loss for Kenai. Kenai, with the loss, is still a hardy 3-1.
The decisive blow was delivered by Eduardo Vázquez in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 21-year old right-handed pitcher Pedro Quiñones to win the game for Akutan Island. The home crowd went nuts.
"This was a tough loss," said Kenai manager Sammy Brown. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
