Vulcans Cut Down Dockhands, 7-3
|
At Vulcan Field, the Portsmouth Dockhands and Nassau Vulcans were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Nassau Vulcans picked up a win at Vulcan Field, topping the Portsmouth Dockhands, 7-3. On the mound for Nassau was left-hander Patrick Riddle. He played a principal role in the triumph. Ronald Pittman earned the save, his 10th.
Brian Wonnocott had a big 3-run home run for the Vulcans in the bottom of the first inning. With Nassau trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher António Marín and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Vulcans on top, 3-1.
"I had pretty good command out there," said Riddle.
The second-place Vulcans improved to 70-56.
