Pioneers Win at Home, 3-0
|
The Fort Wayne Pioneers downed the Portsmouth Dockhands, 3-0, at Fort Wayne Park. Stellar pitching by Andrés González had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 10th in the AWL in complete games with 1, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 7 innings, González surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Tyler Magor finished to wrap up his 10th save.
The Pioneers got a big at-bat from second baseman Brian Gonzáles. For the game, Gonzáles belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Fort Wayne a 2-0 lead.
"When Andrés is in the zone, it's kind of like -- good luck," said Fort Wayne manager Sakutaro Fujii.
The third-place Pioneers hiked their record to 42-63.
