Downward Spiral Continues for Birmingham
|
The losses keep piling up for the Birmingham Bears.
Govan registered a win at Riverside Park by beating the Birmingham Bears, 5-3. Pitcher Bob Browning was one reason why the Shipbuilders triumphed. Browning yielded 3 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 0, and struck out 9. His record improves to 12-6. Blaine Morgan picked up the save for Govan, his 26th of the year.
Nelson Brito had a big bases-clearing double for the Shipbuilders in the bottom of the first inning. With Govan leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Manuel Reyes, who is tied for 4th in the AWL in quality starts with 15, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shipbuilders ahead, 4-0.
Birmingham manager Charles Jeffries, after yet another defeat, said: "We need to recalibrate."
Now 48-58, Birmingham has dropped 12 games in a row.
