Shipbuilders Get Past Portsmouth, 3-2
|
The Govan Shipbuilders had to overcome a big game from Portsmouth right fielder Franky Blonke to leave Ship Yard with a victory. And they did, winning, 3-2. Blonke was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Blaine Morgan sewed up the save, his 25th. With the win, Govan upped its record to 56-48.
Jorge Martínez came through with a big-time hit for Govan. The right fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Shipbuilders manager Chris Long.
