Shipbuilders Win Streak Reaches 6
|
Govan starter Sotatsu Sakurai pitched well against the Kingston Suns at Riverside Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-1. Sakurai, now 6-2, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 2, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. The Suns, now 30-62, have lost 4 straight.
Nelson Brito had a big run-scoring double for the Shipbuilders in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Govan leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Domingo Méndez and swatted a double to left. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shipbuilders ahead, 2-0.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Shipbuilders manager Chris Long. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
