Battleships Beaten, 8-5, by Dockhands
|
The Portsmouth Dockhands overcame a good performance by Bismarck first baseman Andy Harman to knock off Bismarck, 8-5, at Ship Yard. Harman went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Mike O'Quinn picked up the save for Portsmouth, his 11th of the year. Portsmouth has a record of 26-49, placing them 4th in the Amber Waves League Stars and Stripes.
The Battleships had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Dockhands going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old catcher Nathan Blakemore came to the plate. Blakemore hit a bases-clearing double on a 0-1 fastball from Bismarck hurler Jacopo Ciottone. It was Blakemore's 11th double of the year.
In comments to the Portsmouth Today, Blakemore insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
