Shipbuilders Post 8-1 Win Over Nassau
|
The Govan Shipbuilders powered past the Nassau Vulcans, 8-1, at Vulcan Field. Jorge Martínez provided some of the pop. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Sotatsu Sakurai. He tossed 76 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits. The Shipbuilders bumped their record to 37-34 with this win.
Govan used a clutch at-bat from Wolashe Ushindi to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Shipbuilders ahead, 4-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"They just got us," said Nassau manager Bennett Dean, "and that's all I can say."
