Vintners Hand Bears 8-5 Loss
The Middle Bass Vintners withstood an impressive performance by Birmingham shortstop Li-zhi Jung to defeat the Bears, 8-5, at Ballpark of Birmingham. Jung went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs. Middle Bass pitcher John Woods earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. Wendell Haggers suffered the loss. Todd Armstrong collected his 5th save.

Andrew Hampton had a big 3-run home run for the Vintners in the top of the first inning. With Middle Bass leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Wendell Haggers and swatted a home run to left. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Vintners ahead, 6-0.

"In this profession, you've got to put the good and the bad behind you quickly," Birmingham skipper Charles Jeffries said.

The victory gives the Vintners a record of 26-21.
