Vintners Rally to Win
|
The Middle Bass Vintners did just enough to secure a victory over the Birmingham Bears, 3-2, in 13 innings at Ballpark of Birmingham. Nobody did more than pitcher Douggie Tunstall. Middle Bass reliever David Milbank picked up the win to move to 4-0. Charlie Godwin suffered the loss. At 25-20, the Vintners are currently first in the Amber Waves League Stars and Stripes.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bruno Eckstein? The 21-year old shortstop Eckstein stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to put Middle Bass up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 6, including 1 double and 1 single.
"This game tested our mettle," said Eckstein.
