Dockhands Stick Vintners with 5-4 Loss
|
Portsmouth beat Middle Bass at Vintners Stadium, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Javier Torres. He went 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Mike O'Quinn got credit for the save for Portsmouth. It was his 7th of the year. The loss makes Middle Bass 24-20.
Portsmouth used a well-timed hit by Jamie Longworth to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Dockhands ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Longworth.
