Grodin Shines in 7-6 Portsmouth Win
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Portsmouth Dockhands eventually prevailed.
The Portsmouth Dockhands topped the Middle Bass Vintners, 7-6, with youngster Charles Grodin playing a key role. Grodin was 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 and driving in 3 for the Dockhands in the win. Mike O'Quinn nailed down his 6th save.
Grodin contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Portsmouth in the top of the third. With his team trailing 3-2, Grodin took a changeup from Tim McNayr and stroked the home run to right-center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Dockhands to leap in front, 5-3.
In comments to the Portsmouth Today, Grodin admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
The win gives the Dockhands a record of 12-30.
