The Utrecht Scholars downed the Drumright Tornadoes, 1-0, at Utrecht Park. Stellar pitching by Christian Hardin had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who leads the AWL in innings pitched with 50.1, handcuffed his opponent all game. Hardin, now 2-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Antonio Gonçalves closed the game out for Utrecht, earning his 2nd save.
Neil Fields was 1-3 for Utrecht. The 24-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Karl Tinker. It was his 5th RBI of the season.
"I try to not think too much," said Fields.
Drumright has now lost 5 consecutive games.
