The Birmingham Bears weathered a fine game by Portsmouth left fielder Luis Berroa to upend the Dockhands, 8-5, at Ship Yard. Berroa went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The Bears sit in second place in the Amber Waves League Intercontinental with a record of 15-12.

The Dockhands had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Bears going into the top of the seventh inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Li-zhi Jung came to the plate. Jung hit a run-scoring double on a 2-1 fastball from Portsmouth hurler Jonathan Marshall. It was Jung's 8th double of the year.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Jung told the Birmingham Gazette. "But we take nothing for granted."
