Rapid City starter Sheng Zhou put a stranglehold on the Portsmouth offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Rushmores to a 3-0 win. The victory makes Rapid City 12-7, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2042.

Rapid City won the game in part because of Kevin Pearson. The second baseman ripped a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Rushmores ahead, 3-0. For the game, Pearson had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

Afterward, Portsmouth manager Tsurayuki Okamoto said: "We were guessing wrong on pitches, and that's something we've got to get away from."
