Vulcans Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The Nassau Vulcans and Middle Bass Vintners played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
Starting pitcher Robert MacDonell gave the Nassau Vulcans a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Middle Bass Vintners, 2-1, at Vulcan Field. Frank Sparks, now 1-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Oscar Buyse earned the save for Nassau.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Gerard Ailen came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Middle Bass pitcher Roberto Moreno, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Nassau on top, 1-0.
"Robert is a gamer," said Nassau manager Bennett Dean.
With the win, Nassau is 6-4.
