The Grand Rapids Rafters topped the Chandler Waxers, 9-6, in Rocky Mountain League action at Ballpark of Chandler. The game was highlighted by the performance of Grand Rapids pitcher Sergio Montáñez. Montáñez, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. Picking up the save was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Orlando López.

In the top of the first, Greg Moorer delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Grand Rapids designated hitter hit a run-scoring single, putting the Rafters in front, 9-6.
