Missionaries Win Thriller, 2-1

In a low-scoring affair between the Provo Missionaries and the Kyoto Rodan, pitcher Ken'ichi Tsukamoto was the difference between victory and defeat. The Provo left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Missionaries win. Luke Scott picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Mauro Bustamante was tagged with the loss. Provo is now 22-21, Kyoto 17-26.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, slick-fielding center fielder Oniji Kichikawa had a chance to be the hero. Kyoto pitcher Mauro Bustamante wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Kichikawa hit a sacrifice fly. The Missionaries had themselves a thrilling win.
"Ken'ichi didn't monkey around out there," said Provo field general Kumanosuke Kawano.
