Both teams had their chances, but the Iowa City Kingpins eventually prevailed.
The Iowa City Kingpins, behind a great outing from Rubén Rivas defeated the Sioux Falls Lakota, 2-1, at Lakota Ballpark. The winning pitcher was Rivas, now 2-6. He tossed 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 3. Getting the save was Masami Kamihara, his 7th.
Katsunosuki Kawano had a big solo home run for the Kingpins in the top of the third inning. With Iowa City leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a sinker from Carlos González and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Kingpins ahead, 2-0.
Kawano attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Yes, it was a win for Iowa City; but their 12-27 mark is nothing to crow about.
