Sun Dogs Score Late to Upend Gigans, 5-3
|
Powered by Rocky Kowalski, the Thornton Sun Dogs downed the Niigata Gigans, 5-3. Kowalski was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Sun Dogs. Thornton reliever Vince Rayner got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Manny Alonso was tagged with the loss. Jin-haeng Yon recorded his 7th save for Thornton.
Thornton used a timely hit from Gabriel Galván to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sun Dogs ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a difference-maker.
"Winning is contagious," said Kowalski. "We're looking forward to the next game."
The first-place Sun Dogs now have a win-loss record of 19-13.
