Hirano 4-for-4 to Power Gigans Offense
|
Sosa Hirano led Niigata to a win over Thornton. The final score was 6-3. Hirano, who is tied for 5th in the RML in hits with 36, collected 2 RBI, while going 4 for 4 at the plate. The third baseman also scored 2 times. The winning pitcher was Mokichi Tsuchiya. He tossed 93 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The Gigans, at 20-10, sit in first place in the Rocky Mountain League Pacific.
There was more than one reason the Gigans beat the Sun Dogs, but Hirano's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Niigata manager Bill Holt. "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
