Lakers Handle Fighting Scotts, Nab 4-1 Win
|
Racine pitcher Melchior Lohse had a large part in his team beating the Henderson Fighting Scotts, 4-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Lohse, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 11, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Kevin Brickey was credited with the save for Racine, his 4th of the season.
Tied up with the Fighting Scotts in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lakers got a boost from third baseman Ricardo Álvarez. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Álvarez saw a first pitch forkball from Teo Beerens and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Racine on top, 2-1.
"Good win for us," said Álvarez. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
It was the 7th win in 10 games this year for the defending champion Lakers, who are picking up where they left off.
