The Jefferson County Independence could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Adam Geake into a win. Instead, the Akron Ambers prevailed, 3-2. Geake threw 7.1 innings allowing 1 run. The Ambers saw their win-loss record go to 73-55. At the same time, the Independence fell to 58-70.

Akron used the timely hitting of Ron Lowery to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ambers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Lowery said after the game.
