Anchormen Trump Ambers, 4-2
|
Newport News took on Akron in front of a lively crowd.
The Newport News Anchormen picked up a win at Great Lakes Field, taking down the Akron Ambers, 4-2. Starting pitcher Pat Torre was a big reason why. Torre yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-1. Carlos Negrón was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities.
The Anchormen got a big at-bat from shortstop Kazuma Nii. For the game, Nii went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Newport News a 2-0 lead.
Anchormen manager Naoki Suzuki raved about Torre after the game. "I thought Pat was 'lights out.'"
The Anchormen, at 62-61, sit in 5th place in the Appalachian Mountain League East.
