In a low-scoring contest between the Clifton Dons and the Aberdeen Golden Sands, Daan Mastenbroek, who is tied for 9th in the AML with a 1.01 WHIP, proved to be the difference. The Clifton right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Dons win. Mastenbroek yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4. His record improves to 9-4. Tekle-Mariam Louahla got the save, the 1st for him this season.
The Dons got a big at-bat from left fielder Lou Hunt. For the game, Hunt was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Clifton a 2-0 lead.
"When I go out there," said Mastenbroek, "the last thing I want to do is let my teammates down."
Clifton is last in the Appalachian Mountain League East with a record of 50-64.
