Anchormen Get Clonked by Independence, 4-1

Jefferson County played host to Newport News at Ballpark of Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Independence called upon starter Adam Geake, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Newport News Anchormen, 4-1. Geake, now 5-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Bob Kirk earned the save, his 6th in 7 tries.
Tekkan Kojima hit a 2-run home run off Pat Torre in the bottom of the second, which put the Independence ahead, 2-1. In addition to the homer, Kojima had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
Said Newport News manager Naoki Suzuki: "We weren't able to do much."
The 4th-place Independence improved to 53-60.
