Anchormen Take Home 4-2 Win Over Jefferson County
The Newport News Anchormen knocked off the Jefferson County Independence, 4-2, in Appalachian Mountain League action at Ballpark of Jefferson County. Newport News pitcher and Ono, Japan, native Tetsuzan Shimada had an outstanding performance. In 5.2 innings, Shimada surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Picking up his 24th save was 36-year old left-handed pitcher Josh Cheney.

The Anchormen got a big at-bat from designated hitter Dong-kwan Cho. For the game, Cho was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Newport News a 2-0 lead.

Said losing manager Miguel Márquez: "Give the Anchormen credit. They played a better game than we did."

The Anchormen saw their win-loss record go to 58-53. At the same time, the Independence fell to 51-60.
