The Newport News Anchormen earned a close win over the Beantown Browns, thanks in part to Gerardo Díaz. The Newport News left-hander, who is rated as the 54th best prospect by BNN, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Lyndon Hoath got credit for the win, improving to 7-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. The third-place Anchormen lifted their record to 44-48.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Newport News center fielder Noel Dulihanty, facing Dennis Sheffield, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Anchormen the 2-1 win.

"Walking a team off at the end -- there's no greater feeling," said Dulihanty.
