Jefferson County right-hander Don Lewis pitched his team to victory over the Clifton Dons at Ballpark of Jefferson County. The final score was 2-1. Lewis yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 8-6. The Independence now have a mark of 41-50.
Gilberto Méndez had a big run-scoring double for the Independence in the bottom of the first inning. With Jefferson County leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a changeup from former first round draft pick Rory Soutar and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Independence ahead, 2-0.
