In a tight contest between the Newport News Anchormen and the Akron Ambers, Mark Stanford was the determining factor. The Newport News right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-2 win. Stanford picked up the win for Newport News, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 6-2. With the win, Newport News upped its record to 41-37.
