Ambers Sneak Past Tri-Staters, 3-2

Evansville got a big-time effort from pitcher Scotty Shorland, but it wasn't enough to keep the Akron Ambers from winning the game, 3-2. Shorland threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The winner in relief was Jake Horton. He is now 2-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Francisco Romo was credited with the save for Akron, his 1st of the season.
Akron used the timely hitting of Will Norman to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ambers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
After the game, Akron manager Ramón Rodríguez applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
Their 40-30 record puts the Ambers second in the Appalachian Mountain League Central.
