Newport News and Leeds got after it at Anchormen Stadium.

Newport News defeated Leeds, 8-5, in large part due to 23-year old right fielder Hirofumi Daita. Daita drove in 3 runs. The right fielder had 1 double and 1 home run for the Anchormen. Newport News reliever Tetsuzan Shimada got the win, raising his record to 4-0. Jason Romero was tagged with the loss.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Anchormen grabbed the lead when Daita hit his 1st home run of the season. The 3-run home run off Jason Romero made it 6-5, Newport News.

"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Daita told the Newport News Daily News.

The win elevated the Anchormen to 32-26.
