Tri-Staters Knock Off Anchormen, 6-3
|
The Evansville Tri-Staters took on the Newport News Anchormen at Tri-Staters Ballpark.
The Evansville Tri-Staters knocked off the Newport News Anchormen, 6-3, in Appalachian Mountain League action at Tri-Staters Ballpark. Evansville pitcher and Lafayette, Louisiana, native Barney Stone had an outstanding performance. In 7.1 innings, Stone surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Manuel Gonzáles earned his 9th save, after closing out the game.
Toshiro Motsuzuki had a big bases-clearing double for the Tri-Staters in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Evansville leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Rick Lewis and swatted a double to left. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tri-Staters ahead, 5-0.
Motsuzuki called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The Tri-Staters now own a record of 23-33.
