Evansville beat Santo Domingo on the strength of starting pitcher Scotty Shorland's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. Shorland got the win, improving to 5-2. He gave up 7 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. The Tri-Staters move to 22-30 with the win, while the Tourists drop to 25-25.
Toshiro Motsuzuki had a direct impact on the outcome. Motsuzuki contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Evansville up, 3-0.
"I just kind of blacked out and executed my pitches," said Shorland.
