Kinnosuke Honma, despite pitching well, was dismayed with the outcome: a hard-fought, 2-1 Joplin Red Racers defeat at the hands of the Newport News Anchormen at Anchormen Stadium. Giustino Fusarpoli saved it for Newport News. With the win, the Anchormen hiked their record to 29-24.

Chris Davis, who is tied for 10th in the AML with a .363 on-base percentage, chipped in a 2-run home run for Newport News in the bottom of the first. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.

"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Joplin manager Art Gordon.
