Anchormen Use Late Rally to Win
Newport News parlayed a decent outing from starter Gerardo Díaz into a solid win over the Joplin Red Racers. The final score was 8-5. Tetsuzan Shimada claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 1.2 innings. His record stands at 3-0. The Anchormen improved their record to 28-24 with the win over Joplin.

The Anchormen got a big hit from left fielder Edward Frawley. In the bottom of the eighth, Frawley smacked a 2-run double off Joplin pitcher Matthew Craigie. It was his 5th double of the season. Suddenly, the Anchormen were ahead, 5-4.

Frawley called the triumph "a good team win."
